Overall, Rhinestone Eyes isn’t among my favorite songs by The Gorillaz, but I will say that I do consider it one of the more solid tracks from Plastic Beach. Though the track doesn’t have too much energy to it, I think the band makes good use of synthesizers on this song (And I really don’t say this too often), so hopefully the music will be captivating enough for you so as to redeem the track for its lack of energy. Personally, I think that the lethargic-like delivery which is utilized throughout the song somehow fits with the music, but I could also understand why some people would not like it, particularly nearly three and a half minutes of And 'natures corrupted in factories far away' meaning these factories are mass producing these fake (not natural) products and people are using them 'Your loves like rhinestones falling from the sky' probably means their love is as fake as rhinestones. A storyboard video was released showing what the video was going to be like, but development of the video was cancelled due to lack of interest in the previous videos from plastic beach ,or something along those lines.
Whereas the music changes fairly often throughout the track, the vocals maintain a very steady tone and if you find that you aren’t enjoying them after a verse or two, then the vocal performance on this track will just not be for you. I think 'rhinestones' are supposed to be false diamonds, like contacts are false eye color.
